Google updated its ranking algorithm on April 24, 2012 (Google Penguin Update) with the official goal of punishing "over-optimized" websites. In Google's eyes, hyper-optimized pages are those that have too many keywords on a page, in the meta tags and/or duplicated content and too many backlinks with a particular anchor text.
As a result of the update, numerous, even large, high-profile websites have been punished. However, this does not mean that SEO, so search engine optimization has lost its meaning.
On the contrary: Since SEO is a must, if a company wants to remain competitive (because the demand for reputable companies is still unbroken), "correct search engine optimization" is more important than ever.
By "proper search engine optimization" is meant that you pay close attention to what Google regards as negative and adapts the SEO strategies accordingly. A simple example is the keyword density on the web page, which should be around three to five percent. Another point is the so-called header tags, so the headlines that inform the visitor about the theme of the website.
